How Israel Became a Global Cybersecurity Superpower
Israel has become one of the world’s leading cybersecurity centres by combining military intelligence expertise, private entrepreneurship, international investment and sustained government support. Check Point, founded in 1993, helped establish the industry through its commercial firewall technology. Since then, Israeli firms have expanded into cloud security, identity protection, artificial intelligence and critical infrastructure defence. Israeli cyber companies raised $4.4 billion across 130 funding rounds in 2025. In the third quarter of 2026, they attracted approximately 46 percent of global venture investment in the sector. Major acquisitions, including Google’s $32 billion purchase of Wiz and Palo Alto Networks’ acquisition of CyberArk for about $25 billion, demonstrate the industry’s international reach. At home, Israel has built a national cyber defence system to counter persistent attacks. Its growing partnership with India combines Israeli technical expertise with Indian talent, infrastructure and market scale.
